Email

Sourced from a no-expense-spared program in the heart of the Sonoma Valley — an absolutely spectacular Cabernet Sauvignon from what is likely the best vintage in decades for Sonoma Valley Cab, from one of the best producers in Sonoma Valley. And my apologies up front, that’s all I can say about that.

Tasting Notes

Beautifully extracted, inky and opaque. Blackberry jam and cassis underpinned with crème de mûre, coffee grounds and sandalwood from nicely integrated oak. Pretty spices come with air along with a lovely gravel halo. Massive and palate-staining but still juicy and fantastically delicious with great structure and huge length. Ripe blackberry jam, cassis and vibrant blackcurrant slathered over ample, big-grained tannins and supported with gravelly acidity that delivers a massive, energetic finish echoing with ripe fruit for a good 60 seconds.

⏳ Bottle Shock Status: Bottling March for April shipping. Allow minimum 12 months.

Claude’s Source Guess: Lasseter Family Winery — Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma Valley (same producer as Lot 63)

Lasseter Family Winery is run by John Lasseter (former Pixar/Disney creative director) and Nancy Lasseter on their organically farmed Glen Ellen estate, with Phil Coturri — Sonoma’s most respected organic viticulturist — farming the vines. Their Cabernet Sauvignon programs span their Sonoma Valley estate and the high-elevation Trinity Ridge Vineyard in Moon Mountain District, earning exceptional critical acclaim: the 2021 “Reminiscence” Cab scored 98 points from Jeb Dunnuck, and their Trinity Ridge Cab scored 98 points Dunnuck as well. Retailing at $100-120+, Lasseter’s Cabs are among Sonoma Valley’s most celebrated estate wines.

The blend — 84% Cab/10% Malbec/6% CF — matches Lasseter’s known estate varietal plantings (Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc are all explicitly listed in their estate red wine program). Cam’s description of “one of the best producers in Sonoma Valley” is apt — 98-point Dunnuck scores place Lasseter firmly in the top tier of Sonoma Valley Cab producers. The direct-to-consumer and select restaurant distribution model creates exactly the kind of controlled, low-surplus environment that requires “just trust me” language from Cam — these wines simply aren’t widely available.

✅ Confidence: Very High — WB independently identified Lasseter for both Lots 63 and 64, 98-pt Dunnuck Cab confirmed, estate Malbec/CF plantings confirmed, $100+ retail confirmed, Phil Coturri organic farming confirmed, and the cross-lot producer connection is internally consistent.

Drink Window

Early: 2027 — 50-60% new oak and dense mountain structure need 2-3 years minimum.

Peak: 2029–2036. Sonoma Valley Cab from a warm 2024 vintage at this quality tier peaks 5–12 years.

Hold: 2040. The structure and pedigree support a solid 15-year arc.

My Call: ⏳ Drink window: 2027–2040 (peak 2029–2036)
