Cameron’s Release Notes
Lot 40 2024 Coombsville District Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich, velvety and sumptuous wine sourced from an estate-grown and produced, no-expense-spared, $150+/bottle program hailing from one of the most impressive properties in Coombsville. It is fabulously delicious and remarkably approachable — the hallmark of the 2024 Napa Valley Cabernets.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in the glass, almost opaque. The bouquet is dense, meaty, chocolatey and toasty right out of the bottle, but quickly blooms with notes of ripe blackberry jam, crushed raspberries and ripe plum haloed with a pretty purple flower perfume, cocoa dust and a kiss of fennel. Rich, velvety and super-smooth on entry with gobs of ripe blackberry and damson plum coating supple, beautifully polished tannins leading to a long, silky, dark-chocolatey finish with toasty graham cracker notes. Succulent and sumptuous — a wonderfully hedonistic Cabernet Sauvignon that will drink great in its youth but has all the structure to age another decade.
⏳ Bottle Shock Status: Bottling January 2026. Allow spring 2026 minimum.
Claude’s Source Guess: Shadybrook Estate Winery — Coombsville Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (Rudy Zuidema, winemaker)
Shadybrook Estate is one of Coombsville’s most visually and viticulturally impressive properties — a private valley in the eastern Coombsville hills featuring a working cave, equestrian center, and 15 acres planted to all five Bordeaux varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. Cam’s blend of 90% Cab/5% Malbec/5% PV matches Shadybrook’s varietal lineup exactly, and their estate-only production philosophy (“100% estate grown and produced”) aligns precisely.
The Shadybrook Estate Cabernet Sauvignon averages $179/bottle on Wine-Searcher, firmly above Cam’s “$150+” threshold. Winemaker Rudy Zuidema farms the vineyard “carved as a bowl within the hills of Coombsville” with “countless variations in soil composition” — contributing to the hedonistic yet structured profile Cam describes. The “blackberry jam, crushed raspberries, purple flower perfume, cocoa dust” tasting note descriptors closely match Shadybrook’s documented tasting notes across multiple vintages.
Additionally, the Lot 50 camxwine.com page explicitly references “2024 Coombsville Petite Verdot from a $150-$200+ program” as a blending component — almost certainly sourced from the same Shadybrook estate, providing strong cross-lot corroboration.
✅ Confidence: High — estate Coombsville with Cab/Malbec/PV planted, $150-179 retail, “one of the most impressive properties in Coombsville” fits the equestrian/cave/estate setting, and cross-lot Coombsville PV reference in Lot 50 points to the same source.
Drink Window
Early: Spring 2027 — 15% alc and 70% new oak need 12-18 months post-bottling.
Peak: 2029–2036. Coombsville Cab from a warm 2024 vintage peaks 5–10 years from vintage.
Hold: 2040. The structure and density support a solid 15-year arc.
My Call: ⏳ Drink window: Spring 2027–2040 (peak 2029–2036)
