Tasting Notes

Yes, indeed, Oakville Cabernet for only $199/case delivered!!!

Sourced from the organically farmed and well-regarded Rock Cairn Vineyard, this dynamite Oakville District Cabernet Sauvignon sells for well over $100/bottle under the producer’s label. Cam purchased their final Oakville Cabernet blend and then finalized the CAM X version with a splash of Malbec and Petite Verdot, which he believes is quite improved.

With all the bells and whistles—60% new French oak—this deep, dark, and delicious Cabernet is an absolute Deal Of The Century!

Only 300 cases produced… Run, don’t walk to the buy line, folks!

In the glass: dark black core with vibrant purple rim. Opens with a rich, ripe, oaky bouquet of blackberry jam, graphite, and tobacco framed with cedar, adding black raspberry fruit and caramel oak notes as it opens.

Rich and powerful on entry with nicely delineated black and blue fruit seamlessly welded to a robust, palate-staining ball of chewy tannins that unwind a mineral-driven, beautiful flourish of black cherry, blackberry, and chocolate with a blue fruit halo.

Featuring organic fruit ripened at a lovely 14.1% alc, this fantastic Cabernet delivers elegant-yet-powerful structure, great complexity, and a delicious finish.

🧠 ChatGPT says:

🔍 Source Guess: Groth or Turnbull, via Rock Cairn Vineyard

🎯 Rationale:

  • Rock Cairn Vineyard is most famously associated with Groth, who has been farming it organically for years. Turnbull also uses Rock Cairn fruit in some bottlings.
  • Oakville AVA + organic vineyard + $100+ original retail = elite pedigree fruit with serious structure and balance.
  • Cam says this was the “final blend” from the producer, implying it was near bottle-ready and part of a structured tier, not a random barrel blend.
  • 60% new French oak and the 14.1% alc suggest a more balanced, traditional Oakville expression—typical of Groth or Turnbull’s style.
  • Only 300 cases produced, which matches the scale of small-lot single vineyard runs, not large commercial blends.
  • The style (blackberry jam, graphite, chocolate, mineral-laced tannins) is right in line with Rock Cairn wines from Groth in particular.

âś… Conclusion:
Most likely this wine originated from Groth’s Rock Cairn Vineyard program—possibly their Reserve Cab or a one-off small lot. Turnbull is a possible alternate source but slightly less likely based on the profile.

⏳ Drink Window

  • Early enjoyment: Fall 2025, once bottle shock subsides.
  • Peak drinking: 2027–2032, when structure and oak integrate fully.
  • Hold potential: Through 2035+ thanks to Cabernet backbone and balance at 14.1% alc.

⏳ Drink Window: 2025–2035+ (peak 2027–2032)
