Introducing Lot 2 – a powerhouse Oakville Cabernet

This comes straight from a $160+/bottle estate program, crafted by a legendary consulting winemaker, aged in ~85% new French oak, and sourced from the north end of Oakville near the Silverado Trail — a ZIP code that needs no introduction if you’re into Napa Cabs.

It’s rich, dense, structured, and silky. Blueberry pie, cassis, black earth, toasty oak… it’s got it all.

Cameron only made a couple hundred cases of this beauty and it’s already making waves. So if you’re thinking of grabbing a few (or backing up the truck), now’s the time.

Folks, this is an absolutely fantastic Oakville Cabernet!

Straight out of a $160+ per bottle, single-vineyard, estate program on the north border of Oakville just off the Silverado Trail, this sumptuous wine has all the bells and whistles including a legendary consulting winemaker and 80-85% new French oak! Pretty sure we purchased the entire 2022 vintage; however, we only produced a couple hundred cases so I highly recommend you giddyup to one of our retail partners and grab yours today!

Classic Oakville nose of blueberry pie and graham cracker crust complexed with boysenberry and sage/tobacco notes underpinned with fresh-turned black earth all haloed by toasty notes of caramel/creme brulee from the beautifully integrated oak. Pretty cassis and white flower notes emerge with air. Rich and succulent on entry, showcasing wonderfully ripe red and blue fruits, graphite, soft chewy tannins and beautifully integrated toasty oak. Simultaneously ripe, dark, bright, spicy and rich, the wine has a juicy, open-knit yet deep structure that makes it a hedonistic pleasure now while having the fortitude to age gracefully for another decade or more. Dyn-o-mite!

🧠 ChatGPT says:

🔍 Source Guess: Turnbull Wine Cellars (most likely); possibly Nickel & Nickel

🧾 Rationale:

  • Geographic Clue: The wine is sourced from “the north end of Oakville near the Silverado Trail” — which directly points to Turnbull’s Leopoldina Vineyard, located just off the Trail in northern Oakville.
  • Price Point Match: Turnbull’s high-end single-vineyard wines regularly retail between $125–$165, perfectly aligning with the claimed $160+ price point.
  • Consulting Winemaker Reference: Turnbull has worked with renowned consultants over the years, and their style emphasizes polish, richness, and balance — which fits the tasting profile.
  • Production Size: Only 400 cases were made. Turnbull frequently produces small-lot vineyard designates in this range.
  • Oak Program: 80–85% new French oak is characteristic of Turnbull’s upper-tier Cabernets, especially the Leopoldina and Fortuna bottlings.
  • Flavor Profile Match: The mix of blueberry pie, cassis, black earth, tobacco, and crème brĂ»lĂ©e aligns perfectly with the lush, opulent house style of Turnbull’s Oakville Cabs.

🤔 Alternative Consideration:

Nickel & Nickel — Also based in Oakville, they produce numerous single-vineyard Cabernets. While the production volumes tend to be slightly higher, the detailed oak regime and price tier are within their range. Their vineyards are slightly more central Oakville, which makes them a less precise geographic match, but not out of the running.

⏳ Drink Window

Early Enjoyment:
From late 2025 onward (post-bottle shock), this Cab will show plush fruit and toasty oak. A 2-hour decant in youth will help integrate tannins.

Peak Drinking:
2027–2032, when ripe fruit, creamy oak, and graphite-tobacco complexities knit together seamlessly.

Hold Potential:
Up to 2035. With its richness and oak backbone, it could hold even longer, though tertiary notes (cedar, dried fig, leather) will dominate after ~2032.

My Call:
⏳ Drink window (post-bottle shock): 2025–2035 (peak 2027–2032)
